Membership Nomination Criteria & Application Process:
Purpose:
To honor those who have played a major role in the growth and development of baseball in Dutchess County. The DCBBHOF strives to bring public attention the widespread value of and interest in the game of baseball by honoring those who have thrived in and or made outstanding contributions to its success.
Nomination Requirements:
Must have lived in or played in Dutchess County during their playing career.
General Criteria:
1. All criteria apply to a person having played, managed, sponsored, officiated, or organized baseball in Dutchess County.
2. He/she must have excelled, made significant accomplishments either on the field as a players/manager or off the field as an organizer or supporter of the game.
3. Nominees shall be at least 30 years of age and be out of any type of professional baseball for at least three years.
4. Individuals who were non-residents of Dutchess County during their baseball careers may qualify for induction into the DCBBHOF if they played, managed, sponsored, or organized baseball for a minimum of 10 years in Dutchess County. No more than two non-resident applicants shall be inducted into the DCBBHOF each year.
5. All individuals are asked to submit a photo of themselves playing/managing the game along with their application and credentials
6. Method of balloting, specific credentials/meetings/discussions, shall be determined by the Selection Committee (see Selection Committee Procedures).
Players:
1. To be elected, a person must have distinguished themselves through participation in baseball in Dutchess County.
2. Individuals must have excelled in organized baseball for a minimum of 10 years.
3. Nominees must submit accompanying documentation (newspaper clippings, online links, etc.) as proof of participation.
4. Sponsorship: Applicants must be sponsored by at least one current member of the DCBBHOF that is in good standing. Letters of recommendation by current Hall of Fame members are also highly encouraged.
5. Nominations may be made in private for an individual that is not applying themselves, however, a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation must accompany the application if this is the case.
6. Nominees not selected shall remain on the ballot for a total of 3 years.
Umpires/Managers:
1. All criteria same as those of ‘players’.
2. To be selected, an umpire/manager must have officiated/managed a minimum of 15 years in Dutchess County Baseball
Meritorious Service/Contributions:
1. All general criteria of ‘players’
2. To be elected under meritorious service, candidates must have exemplified significant contributions to baseball in Dutchess County, examples being organizers, sportswriters, administrators, etc.
High School Players of the Year Awards:
The DCBBHOF as part of its mission to support local baseball will provide High School Player(s) of the Year Awards annually. The Selection Committee shall work directly with the Dutchess County High School Coaches Association on candidates. Though the number of awards and amounts may change, The Committee shall work with the DCHSCA annually to select award recipients.
